Plus.....I so enjoy the friendships of my kids (which wasn't the case when they were teenagers....I call that the twilight years! WOW! Grandkids really are GRAND! They are God's awards to us for sticking out the "twilight years" with our teenagers!
Church:Bartlett Woods Church of Christ
Fondest memories of Harding:My years are Harding are definitely my best school years. Having attended other schools for 8 years, I really discovered how wonderful Harding was when I arrived in the 9th grade. What made it so great? My class! I had never been in a school where the kids accepted and cared about each other so much. Of course the extra activities were the best, but I even loved class! Several of my fondest memories were in Mrs. French's class. She was so great!
I remember one time John Ivey didn't have his homework. It was during the time with a serial rapists was loose in Memphis. When Mrs French asked for his homework, he began telling this big long story about he was working on it and it was the best he had ever done, when all of the sudden the door flew open and this wanted criminal came in their house. John jumped up to protect his mother as this criminal was chasing her around and around the dining room table. When he did, the criminal lunged across the table to hit him and knocked John's milkshake over on the homework.
John was frantically trying to disable the criminal and get to the phone when he caught movement out of the corner of his eye and spotted the dog going for his homework (the dog loved ice cream)
John had to make a decision to either save his mother or save his homework! John said even though he knew Mrs French would be disappointed, he was positive she would agree that he had made the right decision in saving his mother........which resulted in the dog eating his homework.
John was so animated in the telling of this story that Mrs French actually laid down her papers, put both elbows on her podium stand, cupped her face in her hands and gave John her undivided attention for the whole story....which really encouraged John's fun!
When he finished the story, Mrs French announced that she was giving John a zero for not having his homework but an A+ on his daily grade for that day for being so creative and entertaining! Thanks John for taking the heat off of the rest of us and making an otherwise "just another day" into a fun filled morning of entertainment.
Mrs French was a great sport and a wonderful teacher!
Hobbies:Spending time with my family, Reading
# of Children: 6
# of Grand-Children:15
Pictures: n/a (not yet.....am waiting on glamour shots! NOT! ....just kidding!!!!)
Anything else you want to share: The Harding family is the best! We are lucky beyond words to have each other and the memories we share. I know in the busy lives and commitments we all live, we don't get to see each other or visit near enough, but I think we all know that when the chips are down, we will all be there for each other in prayer or any other action needed!
Thank you:John Ivey for keeping us connected thru this website!

Stephen W. Bowie:
John, you’re the best we love you for your efforts to connect us as friends. I just don’t have the capacity to ‘talk’ on the computer at night. I spend around 6 hours a day online in communication with clients and can’t emotionally handle extending that to the house. Besides, it’s usually 11:00 pm before I begin to put ‘work’ away and settle in (more like CRASH!). So I hope you won’t be discouraged let’s just get together during the day soon and do it face to face!
P.S. I’m sure there will be more opportunities to share old stories and build new ones, so keep that gift on your heart! You have been a great encouragement to both of us!

Catherine "Gillespie" Mullins:
This past year I have seen many changes. Last August, I quit Harding after 15 years to complete my bachelor's degree. I graduated this past December with a BS Ed. This spring, I taught an interim at Harding and also with the county schools as well as substituting for both systems. At present, I am waiting for an offer from the county to teach next fall--actually, school begins August 8! My youngest is at UT Knoxville, studying pre-pharmacy. Three are at Memphis, either full or part-time. One other son will complete his final year at Illinois Tech in Chicago and graduate in May 2006. No one is married, but maybe ...

Janet "Marino" Burkett:
I have been out of the country for a couple of weeks. My youngest just graduated from Mississippi State and my oldest is graduating June 24 from Vanderbilt in a graduate program in nutrition. She did her undergraduate at UT. She is getting married March 25, 2006. They are growing up fast which means I'm getting older, faster.

George McCarley:
George went to Harding from 1964 to 1966. However he made a lasting impression on most of us. Had he stayed at Harding he would have graduated in 1970. George has been living "Down-Under". He says Australia is a wonderful place to live. I am expecting more from him later. Hopefully we will get photos of his surroundings and updates on his family.
